Privacy Policy for Quessia: App Blocker & Focus Timer (iOS)
Effective date: 13 October 2026. Version 1.0 (applies to Quessia for iPhone and iPad, bundle ID com.appkadag.quessia).
Who is responsible
The controller for the limited processing described below is Kemal Cetinkaya, trading as AppKadag, Gauweg 9C, 51067 Köln, Germany. Email: appkadag@gmail.com. Quessia is intended for people aged 16 and over.
- Your block rules, focus sessions, study time and statistics are stored only on your iPhone. There is no account and we run no server that receives this data.
- Quessia uses Apple's Screen Time technologies (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity). Apple keeps the apps, categories and websites you pick as private tokens that Quessia cannot read as names. Nothing from Screen Time is collected by us or sent off your device.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no crash-reporting service in the iOS app.
- If you buy Quessia Pro, Apple handles the purchase. Quessia only learns whether you own Pro.
1. Data stored on your device only
This data is kept in the app's private storage and in the App Group shared between Quessia and its Screen Time extensions on your iPhone. It is never sent to us:
- Block rules: your picked apps, categories and websites (as Apple tokens), schedules, daily limits, strictness and passes.
- Focus sessions: start, end and planned length, and your study sessions and earned minutes.
- Passes: when a pass was used and the optional reason you tapped (for example "Bored", "Habit", "Work").
- Pro features you set up, such as extra profiles, a partner lock (a salted hash of the partner code, never the code itself) and your focus sound choice.
- Settings, theme, and your Pro status as reported by the App Store.
If iCloud Backup is on for your iPhone, iOS may include the app's storage in the backup it makes to your own iCloud account. We do not receive or control that backup.
2. Screen Time access (Family Controls)
Quessia asks for Screen Time access with Apple's individual authorization, which you approve with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Quessia is not a parental-control app and does not manage another person's device. Quessia uses it for three things only:
- Choosing what to block: Apple's picker returns opaque tokens for the apps, categories and websites you select. Quessia cannot see their names or bundle identifiers as text. It stores the tokens on your device and hands them back to Apple to show the shield.
- Blocking: Quessia asks iOS to shield the selected items during the schedules, limits and focus sessions you set. The shield you see on a blocked app is drawn by Quessia's extensions on your device.
- Your own screen time: a Screen Time report extension draws your usage inside a sandbox that iOS controls. The numbers are shown to you and are not readable by the Quessia app itself, and they are not stored, sent to us or used for any other purpose.
You can withdraw access at any time in iOS Settings, Screen Time. Blocking then stops. Apple, not Quessia, controls this switch, so Quessia cannot stop you from revoking it.
3. iOS permissions
- Screen Time access (Family Controls): Section 2.
- Notifications: reminders, the "pass ends soon" alert and block-window alerts. Optional.
- Audio playback: Pro focus sounds are bundled in the app and play from your device. They keep playing in the background during a session if you start them.
- CSV export (Pro): when you export statistics, the file is handed to the app you pick in the iOS share sheet. Quessia does not send it anywhere itself.
Quessia does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or tracking permission, and it does not use the advertising identifier.
4. Purchases (App Store)
If you buy Quessia Pro (monthly, yearly or lifetime), Apple processes the payment as an independent controller under Apple's terms and privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). Quessia receives only the purchase status from StoreKit and keeps whether you own Pro on your device. We never see your payment details and have no account system. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; you manage and cancel them in your Apple account settings. Legal basis for handling your Pro status: performing the contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
5. What we do not do
We do not collect or sell personal data, show ads, use an advertising ID, track what you tap or which screens you view, collect crash reports ourselves, use your location, or share your rules, sessions or Screen Time data with anyone, because that data never leaves your device. Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymous App Store and crash statistics if you have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers in iOS settings; these cannot identify you.
6. Your choices
- Withdraw Screen Time access in iOS Settings, Screen Time, or remove the apps you blocked in Quessia.
- Switch off notifications in iOS Settings.
- Delete rules, sessions and other items one by one in the app. Deleting Quessia removes its local data. Backups in your iCloud account are managed in your Apple settings.
7. Children
Quessia is intended for people aged 16 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16, and the app collects no personal data from any user. If you believe a minor has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
8. Retention
Data on your device stays until you delete it or delete the app. We keep emails you send us only as long as needed to answer you.
9. Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and similar laws)
Because your app data stays on your iPhone, you can already see, correct and delete it inside the app. Where we do process personal data about you (an email you send us), you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Our competent authority is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (LDI NRW), Kavalleriestraße 2-4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany; you may also complain to the authority in your own country. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
10. Changes
If we change how Quessia handles data (for example, adding advertising, analytics or a new service provider), we will update this policy and its date before the change ships and show a notice in the app on your next launch where the change is material.
